High-Five
Challenge
Participation Requirements |
All schools appear once
during the regular season, with the top eight scoring teams and two random
picks qualifying for the playoffs. Each team has five to seven players and
one coach.
Normally a teacher acts as coach. However if a teacher or staff member is
not available a parent may assume the role as coach.
It is our intention to start inviting teams from outside the Northwest
within the next year, and any schools that are selected will have their
teams flown in at no cost for airfare, lodging, meals or ground
transportation while in Portland Oregon. Each of the "outside the
Northwest teams" will consist of up to seven student players and a coach,
plus one other adult chaperone for a total of up to nine persons per school.
If your team would like to
participate in the High-Five Challenge, please

High-Five
Challenge
The Kids |
The vast majority of
kids in school today are doing a good job. The problem is, you rarely hear
about them. Only about five percent of kids in school are real
troublemakers, yet they receive 95 percent of the media's attention.
All students on both teams are profiled during the show, highlighting some
of their many accomplishments, both in and away from school. Many of the
kids are active in their church, they volunteer in the community, they're
active in school. HIGH FIVE is their
"15-minutes of fame. " |

The Show |
|
| All shows are taped at the
studios of OPB in Portland before a live audience. Each show features 50
questions and answers in 10 different categories. Some categories are
academic in nature, such as Geography, Science or History. But some are also
non-academic, such as Trivia, Sports or Arts & Entertainment. The public is
invited to join the audience during any of the tapings. It's a great
opportunity to watch an actual television production unfold as well as a
chance to cheer on the teams. |

Game Rules |
|
High school teams compete
from Seattle to Southern Oregon and all points in between.
All schools appear once during the regular season, with the top eight
scoring teams and two random picks qualifying for post season play. Both
teams have five to seven players. During play, four regular players and one
wild card from each team compete in ten categories.
Players may be substituted after the fifth category. The wildcard "MUST" be
changed at this time. The five additional categories are then played.
Each wildcard player has three
steals for each half of the game. Unused steals cannot be carried over to
the second half. Incorrect steals lose double point values. The final
category has point values that are doubled. |
